Flexible rubber silicone rubber tape tube heaters can be made as wire-wound types or etched foil types. The wire-wound elements are made up of resistance wires wound around a fiberglass rope, which helps to hold and stabilize them. The etched foil heaters use a thin metal foil (0.001 inches thick) as the part that resists electricity. When you need a small or medium number of heaters, or when the heaters are medium to large in size, and also when you want to make prototypes to check the design details before making a large number of etched foil heaters, it's better to use the wire-wound ones.
